Alternative Medicine-The Definitive Guide by Dr Burton Goldberg mentions vitamins A, zinc and beta-carotene to strengthen the stomach lining. There are naturally-based products like Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) which support a healthy stomach lining.

I feel fuzzy and warm all over sharing this book with you!

NOW this is how a wellness book ought to be written! No "utlimate guide" promising you shortcuts and "total solutions" to just about any health problem you have, including a lousy attitude. We have in this book the author's personal journey, told straightforward without any embellishments, from continually suffering from acid reflux, going through doctors and medications galore, and then doing her own research and experimentation.

She doesn't promise a sure cure for everyone -- but a pathway to overall better health of body and mind that very well could solve your heartburn or acid reflux problem, even GERD. And could very well solve other problems too, such as tension, stress, high-blood pressure, anxiety, etc. No, she doesn't offer some magic solution, just a lifestyle approach -- that is the foundation of all good health and healing.

Even when it comes to breath control and meditation, the author is very balanced in her approach and doesn't push an agenda. She just wants you to find out what is best for you, and her insights help you do just that. YOU WILL BE INTRODUCED TO --

-- the causes of acid reflux and heartburn
-- benefits of lifestyle changes
-- letting go of rage and anger (which often bring out a lot of stomach acid)
-- meditation that suits you
-- and a personal encouragement from the co-authors, direct from their hearts and experiences to you.

This book is so personal and helpful that I feel fuzzy all over sharing it with you. And ordinarily, I'm a very sane, critical and scientifically-minded reader and writer. Some of my other reviews will tell you that!

Very useful - and a pleasure to read

"Acid Reflux – How I Cured Myself by Breathing" explains the nature of acid reflux, commonly known as heartburn, and teaches a natural way to deal with this distressing ailment. Mae Segeti – a former ballerina and a self-confessed cat lover – locates the causes of heartburn in our unhealthy lifestyle choices – especially stress. Speaking from personal experience, she finds that the usual medicines often do more harm than good, but this reader, for one, was glad to see that her commitment to natural healing did not require her to ridicule the medical profession or otherwise lose a sense of balance. For Segeti and co-author, Nic Montey, the way to healing is through Yoga. She describes a simple 7-minute-a-day exercise programme which grew out of her experience of different forms of yoga and which has largely freed her of heartburn. This pared-down routine combines breathing exercises with body postures in a clear and accessible way. This reader would have liked to see some picture diagrams or photographs of the body postures, even so, the instructions given are easy to follow. Planned as one of a series of short self-help books, "Acid Reflux – How I Cured Myself by Breathing" is written in a warm and gentle tone which is a pleasure to read. Dealing with heartburn is one facet of a life practice of turning negative emotions into positive ones and allowing the True Self to emerge. I am looking forward to the next installment in the series. Four stars.
