Jon M. Duff received his Ph.D. in art education from The Ohio State University after undergraduate and graduate study in technology at Purdue University. He then served on the faculty in Engineering Graphics at Ohio State and in Technical Graphics at Purdue. Professor Duff currently teaches a variety of courses at Arizona State University, including modeling, animation, illustration, and technical publishing. He is the author of over 70 technical papers and 17 texts on industrial graphics and has served as a consultant to education, industry, and government for over 30 years

A Classic

As computer-based modelling takes over this function, the fundamentals are in danger of being forgotten. This is a classic and remarkably thorough text on the subject. As someone who reads graphics as part of construction and prototype projects, I've found the book essential to understanding not only the views of parts, but how to see them in their three-dimensional functional aspect. If you ever have to make parts from scratch -- know what they do and how they fit -- this is the book to have on your reference shelf. It is also the basic source for design and even sketching techniques essential to making yourself understood in quick studies and discussions with others. Note, earlier editions are equally relevant.

Better than nothing

I have to say that this book is arguably worth reading ONCE, but it does not offer much in the way of practical advice. It basically beats you over the head with how things work; although, some of the information provided in this book I felt was a bit questionable. For example, the author talks about how 11:1 Air Fuel Ratio will give the fastest flame front speed, but he doesn't explain why or provide sources other than that it's supposedly been captured on a special camera. I've been unable to find ANYONE else that claims 11:1 AFR gives the fastest flame front speed, so I would take some of the numbers given in this book with a grain of salt.

When I said this book hits you over the head, it really does just that. Several parts of the book were repeated literally I'd say about 6 times. It got so bad that I felt the author was just copying and pasting to pad the information and it made me feel like he wasn't really that concerned with writing a quality book. The description given by another reviewer on this site who wrote that the book is full of fluff and that the title of the book is a little misleading is fairly spot on. It felt more like I was reading a bad information pamphlet about how engines are ideally supposed to work instead of a book on E.M. tuning. It doesn't help that the word count on the pages is fairly high with small print and the book is fairly thick. Your dedication will be tested to make it all the way through to the end of this one; I did though and it didn't get any better.

After reading this book, I read "the other Engine Management" book that Amazon has here by Mr. Banish and I have to say that I was utterly amazed by its quality after having read this one first. Aside from a small snippet of information here and there that you have to dig out of this book, it feels like it was overall a waste of time after I read the other one.

A lucky mistake

I actually bought this book by accident.. I was looking for all other books by Jeff Hartman, but realized after buying this that this is the second edition of his Advanced Engine Management book, which more recently was updated with the third edition. It does contain information which is not in the third edition, as the third was a substantial re write. It is enjoyable none the less and is often discounted.. In short, it's not current, but quite good in its own right.

Excellent background primer

This was a very thorough introduction to Electronic Fuel Injection basics, starting out with how you would want to design a system to handle those items that used to be handled by a distributor and carburetor. The author also talks about the advantages of EFI systems, typical engine parameters, and even gives formulas for deriving various component sizes, such as injector flow rate. If you are looking for in-depth information about how to tune a specific motor or automobile, this isn't the book for you. The specifics of engine tuning are given in more general terms so that they can be applied to your particular application as you gain knowledge to tackle your first EFI tuning project.

Katya and Maksim bring on the schizzle in Kresley Cole's The Master!

I didn’t think it was possible to love a Russian more than I loved Aleks Sevastyn, but then I met his younger brother Maksim and well…Aleks might have been replaced. I have been waiting on this story for some time now and to say I loved The Master by Kresley Cole, would be an understatement. It was PERFECT in every way, and as much as I love Maksim, it was his Katya that stole the show in this book. My God what an amazing character she was. She had wit, she had charm, she had heart and she knew how to bring the heat.

The Master, book two in The Game Maker series, is the kind of book you fall in love with in the first few pages. I would say I read this in one sitting but I had a 6 hour lull where I did in fact need to sleep but promptly picked up as I awoke to finish it. In this story, we find Maksim our uber rich Russian politician/mafia boss hiring an elite escort for the night…a tall, blonde, Nordic looking woman who is up for a bit of kink. What he gets is a short, curvy, Cuban sex pot with a sassy mouth with no desire to delve into his kink at all. Within the first 10% of this book, you are hooked. The sparks that fly between the Dominant and his little Cat and their battle of wills, you are utterly captivated with where this story is going to go.

Kresley Cole is a Master herself at her craft….she so vividly brings the sights of the ocean and smells of the sea off the pages so you feel as if you are right there in the penthouse suite in Miami. As I felt everything in The Professional was dark, The Master is light personified. How she can continuously write such amazing characters in such different genres is beyond me. Katya could be one of my most favorite characters to date. She is the type of girl you want to be friends with if not to laugh and party with but to maybe even hop the fence for a night with her. She takes sexy Maksim and his controlling ways and bends him to her will without any apologies and without him even realizing at first what she is doing.

The Master has it all…scorching hot sex, an amazing plot, a bit of suspense, a little angst, a ton of humor and most of all two people from different spectrums of the economic world falling for each other. We also get visits from the cast of characters from The Professional and it was so good catching up with Aleks and Natalie and Jess continues to keep us in stitches. Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading The Professional cause it was truly amazing as well. The Master literally has everything I look for in a book yet so much more. Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman has nothing on you Katya! 5 me encanto stars!

Holy HOTNESS Maksim! And even that may be understatement when it comes to The Master. Incendiary may be a better word to describe it because you’ll need more than a freezing cold shower while reading this one. BOB? probably. This is Kresley Cole at her very best and is even better that The Professional IMHO. The Master is beyond sexy, the banter and humor are pure KC, the pace is good and never really drags and,thank the lord, while there is some angst, though not anywhere near as much as in The Professional, it is what I deem an acceptable level to give just the right amount of drama to the story.
I loved Maksim and Cat. The sexual chemistry between them was off the charts from the very beginning and as their story progressed we see that the chemistry extends much farther than the physical and sexual, although that is always something that burns hot between them, and it just shows that they are meant to be together. Separately, I have to say I think I love Maks just a tiny bit more than Aleks, they are both so similar in their “I am the Alpha, you will do as I say” personalities, and both had a lot of darkness in them, but there was something about Maks and his vulnerability that when it came out just had me melting for him, even though I did want to smack him a few times. But then there is Cat and that hot mami stole the show. It takes a lot for me to crush harder on the h of the H/h but Cat did it. She’s vivacious, intelligent, strong, funny, sassy and she owns herself. She doesn’t back down from what she wants, even when Maks was doing his very sexy Alpha dominant thing, Cat owned her sexuality and herself and was very much apart of all that was going on and I loved being in her head and experiencing her risk/reward debates.
While much of the book is focused on Maks and Cat’s relationship, there is the little matter of Cat and her past. I thought it was played out well and didn’t mind that while it was in the forefront of Cat’s mind, it took something of a back seat in the big scheme of things.
We also get to catch up with Aleks and Natalie and be at their wedding and it was wonderful to not only see where they are at but to get to have a little interaction with Aleks and Maks and see how their relationship is progressing. And of course there is Jess. LOVE her. I do hope she gets her own book because she’s just amazing...maybe her and Dmitri? The again maybe not because they may go totally nuclear on each other, especially afterlearning just a little more about what happened to Maks and Dmitri, but if anyone can pull it off it would be KC.

Brilliantly funny! Blazingly hot!

The Master is the second book In Kresley Cole’s Game Maker series and should be at the TOP of your TBR pile or better yet, stop what you’re doing and read it now! It’s one of the best books of 2015 and is in a class all by itself. I would describe it as a modern day Pretty Woman - with a hot to trot Russian mobster and a spicy Latino with way more humor and lots more sexy time. I enjoyed the first book, was excited about this one (extremely excited that it wasn’t a serial) but was not at all prepared for just how much I would love it. I devoured this sexy gem in no time flat. Mainly because I couldn’t put it down to save my life. I have zero self-control when it comes to reading Kresley Cole’s books anyway. There’s no such thing as take it slow, savor the words, bask in the moments. NO-- MUST. HAVE. NOW. It’s a -I will chew your arm off if you try and take my Kindle away from me- kinda good. I don’t know what she did from the last book to this one, but how you say, took it up a notch or ten? Yeah, that’s what she did alright.

Catarina has come on hard times since she’s been in hiding after a relationship gone way wrong. After a few years on run, she’s basically hit rock bottom with no money, and decides to take a one-time job as an escort. She’s not only doing her friend/client a favor by taking the job, she also desperately needs the money if she’s to move on to the next town. I was a little worried about the whole prostitute thing, not sure if I was full on board with it, but KC had me sold within the first chapter. Catarina is going down as one of my all-time favorite heroines. Despite everything she’s endured in her young age, she doesn’t let it get her down. Girl is a fighter. Not only that, she’s feisty and smart, quick on her toes, yet kind and loyal. She is a sexual being and she owns it! I mean, she was very secretive and hard to get to know, but given what we know of her background, it’s understandable. However, her most endearing quality to me was her sense of humor. She cracked me up throughout the entire book.

Maxim. There are jerks and then there is this guy. He was so cold and rude and overbearing. I thought WOW, Kresley, you’ve got your work cut out for you with this one. Then, the setting clicked. Miami! It would take the Florida heat to unthaw this bastard. Oh boy, though, once he thaws out, he is a sweetheart and the sexiest character on the planet. When the story begins, he’s visiting the states on business, plus his brother is getting married and wants him to attend. It’s not a given that he would go, btw. You’ll have to read the first book if you want to know why. So, he’s in the states for a few weeks and has certain….proclivities he enjoys. However, he likes his women tall, slender, blonde, quiet, and submissive. Ummm….Cat equals the opposite of all that. Heehee. See, it’s perfect from the start.

The back and forth between Cat and Max was masterful. They are electric and funny, and once the walls come down it was one of the sweetest stories I’ve read in a while. As much as I laughed, it never dawned on me that by the end I’d be tearing up too. This story had it all. There is so much I loved about this book, I’d bore you to tears (if I haven’t already)so I’m just going to say, don’t miss out. The entire book was well-written and a must read for Kresley Cole fans. If you are not already a fan, just where the heck have you been? This book is not paranormal, it could be read as a stand-alone, it’s a full novel not a serial, and it is EROTIC romance. There’s lots of sex and praise be for it!
Brilliantly funny! Blazingly hot!

Great Resource

I was actually a student of Dr. Marchiori while at Palmer and think a lot of him both as a person and an instructor. I use this book from time to time as a resource in my own practice located in Augusta, Georgia. It provides a wealth of information that is quite useful. Nice thing is that I was actually able to talk Dr. Marchiori into signing mine prior to graduation.

Book is a little expensive, but well worth it considering there are not many resources like this out there.

I found Dr. Marchiori's book to be well thought out. It is full of usefull CLINICAL information that will be of benefit to anyone who utilizes radiography in their health care practice. It is a must to have on your reference shelf.

For the regular guy, it gets too technical too quickly

If you like the way your pictures come out, this book is built to show you how to apply those skills to the digital format. But if you're an average family member trying to improve your pictures of your average life, go with "How to Photograph Your Life" by Nick Kelsh.
"Digital Photography: An Introduction" by Tom Ang
The opening chapter (on how to select the equipment to meet your needs) is useful only for those who don't have a camera, computer, or scanner yet or those who are looking to replace their current tools. But by the time I'm buying a photography book, I'm looking to make better use of the camera I already have. And I don't claim to know more than the professionals, but the author's advice on many technical points seems to contradict all that I've heard elsewhere. Such as his suggestion on page 16 that "with a 3-megapixel camera you have really crossed over into the realm of professional-quality image-making." This is a brand-new publication (October 2003) and I wouldn't hire any professional who told me he would be shooting my event with a 3-megapixel camera these days. Plus, like the rest of the book, it gets too technical too quickly. By the fourth page of the chapter, the author is describing buyers' choices for available focusing methods and viewfinder systems, before getting into the broader, more basic subject of whether to choose a 1, 2, or 3-megapixel camera. At least the chapter is short - only 24 pages.
The 2nd chapter is wonderful - the good stuff on how to take better pictures. Fundamentals of composition, lighting, proportion... but the author spends too little time on each subject. For example, there are only two pages on proportion, and the whole chapter is only 34 pages long. And it gets too technical too quickly, often recommending techniques that require costly accessories. The author seems to assume you already have a photographic eye and he says nothing about how to train your eyes to turn a scene from an average life into a good picture.
The rest of the book makes up the bulk of it (pages 94 to 216). These last two chapters cover image manipulation and output options (web, printing, emailing). I can't really review these because I haven't gotten there yet. First I need to start taking pictures that I like before I'm willing to invest time and money into editing and printing them.
Maybe it's just me, but this does not seem like a good book for beginners.

This was my orange sherbet.

Choosing an introductory level technical guide is something like ordering ice cream in a foreign language: all the flavors might be good, but you probably won't feel satisfied if you wanted orange sherbet and wind up with rocky road.
I bought this volume in spite of two negative Amazon.com reviews. Fortunately I brought a wireless Internet connection to my neighborhood bookstore so I was able to do some real browsing.
The layout and printing are first rate. I like heavy paper, full color on every page, and a design that serves the content. This was the best by far in those areas among the smaller digital photography volumes I saw. Tom Ang has a wonderful photographer's eye.
This is a guide for people who used to burn through 35mm film as a hobby. It won't teach you how to shoot your niece's birthday party or explain every optimization trick in Photoshop. You already know the basics - if this is your book - and you'd rather leave the imaging software tome back at home on the desk. What you really want is enough information to adjust some settings and composition, glance at the preview screen, and get a sense for what you'll do afterward.
I may not be the typical reader. Although I've never taken a photography course in my life and couldn't feel my way out of a darkroom, I've also been published in about half a dozen magazines. This volume is beautiful enough to make me want to run for my camera and sturdy enough to carry along for some thumbing. What attracted me most is tricky to pinpoint. Tom Ang understands how digital cameras "see" and how imaging programs "think," yet those technologies never overwhelm his priorities. It's all about getting the shot.

Waste of Money..... I want my wasted time back.

This books drags on, explains little and for someone like myself that is just starting in Photography and wants an understanding in common Photographic terms is useless. The following terms are not explained in Mr. Ang's Glossary at all, and too much space is given to Computer for Dummies dialog.
Following terms are not at least touched upon or even explained:
Effective Resolution
Aperture
F Stop
Metering
Depth of field
Digital Optics
Exposure Control
What Mr. Ang Spends most of his time doing is reprinting what has been written a thousand times over in Photoshop Books and Computer for Dummies circa 1987.
The Cameras that he compares, six models, three of the best and three of the absolute worst, are in so horrible detail, three paragraphs, that I would expect this kind of effort from a Junior High Student. Of course one will get great looking photos operating a Nikon D100 but the why is not even explained in detail, what we get instead is: How to have your eyes set from optimal monitor viewing!
I would swear that most of this material was Plagiarized for "how to set up your Computer manual" and "Photoshop for Dummies". The only saving grace to the whole book is the "Quick Fix" sections but this material I have also seen many times over in PC Week and MacWorld.
If you know nothing about computers and Don't need certain Photographic terms explained and studied, and would also like to just get another tip book get the Photoshop Bible, that would be better than this outdated, ill informed over bloated drivel.

Textile Science made simple.

I used this book in college. The author was also my prof. so it was a required text. Well worth it! This text takes textile science and breaks it down into small easy read chapters with review questions. There are plenty of figures to look at as picture references to help you understand concepts and fiber shapes. My only downfall with the book is that I wish it had some color pictures.

About the Author
Mike Silver is a Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Hope College. He received his B.S. in chemistry from Farleigh Dickinson University and his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Cornell University. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society and past president of the West Michigan Section and a member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. He has received the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research and the Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Steve Russo has taken an early retirement as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Cornell University and is now teaching Chemistry part time at Ithaca College. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at Indiana University. While there, he designed and implemented a state-of-the-art computer resource center for the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. He received his B.S. in chemistry from St. Francis College, and his Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from Cornell University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and has been a recipient of the Dupont Teaching Award, Clark Teaching Awards while at Cornell University, and an Amoco Distinguished Teaching Award from Indiana University.�

Great chemistry book for beginners

I purchased this book for a college level course and loved this chemistry textbook. I had never taken a chemistry class before and this book is great for beginners with little to no prior knowledge of chemistry. There are many pictures/cartoons to help explain the different concepts, which were very helpful. I have since had to read other chemistry books, and this one was far the best in explaining the concepts in an easy to understandable way.
