Not a man to back down to anyone, he vowed that he would get what he wanted before he proposed to Cassie. Marriage would be on his terms or not at all.

Luke Callahan may be twenty-eight years old but that doesn't mean he's ready to marry - no matter how tempting the young woman may be. Sure his pa's been after him to court the neighboring rancher's daughter, Cassie, so that they could combine the ranches but he refuses to marry before he's good and ready - only he may not have much say in the matter...

Cassie Morgan has her heart and mind set on marrying Luke and if trapping him into marriage is the only way she can have him then so be it. With her pa and Luke's pa's blessing she sets about being caught in a compromising position with Luke which of course would lead to a shotgun wedding.

After fixing the fence posts that separate Callahan land from the Morgan's Luke opts to clean up in the neighbor's pond even though he knows he risks getting caught. He just never expected to find himself compromised by Cassie who joins him in the water - naked. Every attempt he makes to get her to get dressed and leave fails and then things get worse when he hears the click of a gun and Cassie's pa informs him that he's expected at Sunday dinner and there had better be a ring along with an offer of marriage. Luke is adamant that he will not be forced into a shot gun wedding.

Luke has strong feelings for Cassie and at some point he might have proposed on his own but this trickery is simply intolerable. However, since it looks like getting out of a marriage is impossible, Luke is going to dictate the terms. Will Luke discover that being engaged to Cassie isn't the worst thing that could happen - in fact it might be a blessing?

SHOTGUN WEDDING is a short sweet historical story that leaves the reader feeling good about this relationship right from the beginning. Luke and Cassie are a great couple but with Luke so dead set on remaining single he isn't prepared to admit to any real feelings for her. Luke's reaction to a shotgun wedding is exactly what I'd expect most men to feel but I loved how he goes about arranging it so that any marriage will be on his terms. Cia Leah brings this story to life with plenty of emotional context, sexual tension, and even a little humor.

A Short Primer on St. Augustine That's Well Worth Reading

Just finished Dr. Taylor Marshall's new e-book "St Augustine in 50 Pages." It was a nice overview of the saint's life and work. As someone who's read Augustine's "Confessions" several times and the entire "City of God," I still learned quite a bit from Dr Marshall's short treatment. If you're completely unfamiliar with Augustine's work or if your a seasoned Augustine devotee, this book is worth checking out.

A lot of info in 50 pages! Wow.

This is the second volume by Taylor R. Marshall that I have read. I have also since attended two of his live webinars. I can highly recommend this book. Taylor really knows how to pack a lot of information into 50 pages. This book follows his immensely popular Thomas Aquinas in 50 Pages: The Layman's Quick Guide to Thomism. Even though almost 900 years separated the two authors these in 50 pages books links them, their works and give good reasons for us to be studying them and going deeper. Marshall writes in a very engaging and easy to read style. To be honest I hit the end of the book and was surprised even knowing it was a short volume when I began. He presents the material in such a way that it does not seem like many academic writers, and as such is quickly becoming a favourite writer of mine.

List of Books on Augustine for Beginners
The Writings of Augustine

Taylor states of Augustine that: "Augustine was great at writing and disputation. He kept the quill in his hand. His books and sermons reveal a man gifted for infusing heartfelt passion into theology so as to make it practical." And to be honest that is what Taylor himself is doing. This book can be a reminder for those of us who finished formal studies years ago, for the younger reader as a primer for a high school or first year university course. Or for anyone who wants to dip their toes in the pool of knowledge but be warned once you get the toes wet especially with an author like Taylor you will likely dive in.

This was a wonderful little read. And I do plan on going on and very soon reading more from Taylor R. Marshall. I can recommend this book and believe that it will spark a hunger and thirst for more knowledge. Give it a go you have nothing to lose and maybe a whole lot to gain. Well done Mr. Marshall well done.

Wikipedia is a better bet!

This pamphlet, besides not being quite 50 pages, is poorly edited with many omitted prepositions and being verbs. Furthermore, the author has repeated a whole paragraph twice on pages 31-32. Not much new material here that Wikipedia couldn't provide. Certainly not worth $15.

They discuss the differences between their planets. The Saturnian has 72 senses; the Sirian has 1,000. The Saturnian lives for 15,000 Earth years; the Sirian lives for 10.5 million years. At the end of their conversation, they decide to take a philosophical journey together.
Eventually, they arrive on Earth and circumnavigate it in 36 hours, with the Saturnian only getting his lower legs wet in the deepest ocean and the Sirian barely wetting his ankles. They decide that the planet must be devoid of life, since it is too small for them to see with the naked eye. In the Baltic Sea, the Saturnian happened to spot a tiny speck swimming about, and he picks it up to discover that it is a whale. As they examine it, a boatful of philosophers returning from an Arctic voyage happens to run aground nearby.
The travellers examine the boat and, upon discovering the lifeforms inside it, they conclude that the tiny beings are too small to be of any intelligence or spirit. Yet they gradually realize the beings are speaking to each other, and they devise a hearing tube with the clippings of their fingernails in order to hear the tiny voices. After listening for a while, they learn the human language and begin a conversation, wherein they are shocked to discover the breadth of the human intellect.

We all know that compassion and humanitarianism are at the heart of spirituality but it largely gets buried under religious dogmas
and rituals.
Here is a new theology that goes to the heart of that spirituality, reinterpreting the gospels and using the latest historical research to establish what might be (and hopefully are) the authentic teachings of Jesus.

Forget about the next world. The purpose of our lives according to Jesus (and possibly the founders of all great religious traditions) is to focus on this life, making the world a better place by becoming more compassionate human beings.
Our ultimate salvation will hinge on this but we will have many reincarnated lifetimes to refine it.

This is a beautiful and simple idea. Why has it never been so clearly articulated before?
If Christian Humanism ever became a religion, I would probably give up being an atheist and sign up.

The Real Deal

Christian Humanism depicts a humane and humanistic God, simply and honestly, by providing fresh insight and revelations about the 'historical' Jesus that so many Christian preachers seem to ignore.

Its realistic and common sense narrative effectively provides an answer to the meaning of life. This book is not the usual Christian fare full of those touchy-feely motherhood statements . It challenges conventional Christian teachings and liberal/conservative agendas by opening up a world of love based on compassion for the worst cases of human suffering. It depicts Jesus as commanding us to answer the cries of humanity, reaching out and connecting with the world's most vulnerable and oppressed. This book speaks the 'real' word of God and our world desperately needs to hear it. Amen.

Beautiful, honest, naked, inspiring.

I don't usually read auto-biographies, downloaded Shoe Dog on a whim and could not put it down until I reached the very last page. The final chapter materialized through a curtain of tears.

Knight's story is intriguing, his words so straight and bare that I feel I've made a new friend.

Read this if you are an entrepreneur (or married to one), an athlete, an adventurer, or simply a human. This is not the story of a company, but of the souls and persons, great adventures and struggles behind the brand.

I love this book

I love this book. I read an advance copy a few months ago and was really taken with the charm, humor and wisdom of the narrative voice. I'm sure a lot of people will buy this book hoping for a how-to guide on founding a bold, innovative corporation. Those people won't be disappointed, for there's lots here on the topic of creative thinking, risk taking and dream chasing. But for me, the book was a beautiful reflection on youth, vision, caprice, doggedness, good cheer and a profound competitive spirit. Knight is a natural storyteller, and he looks back on his early days as an entrepreneur with clarity, wonder and humor. I laughed on nearly every page, but the portrait that emerges is one of a young man with little but a dream to anchor him, a mentor to guide him and an unshakable belief that he can actually make it all work. Most important, it's love that gives the entire enterprise purpose. That's inspiring.

Well written, historically-accurate biographies are among my favorite genres ... and I expect many others as well. While I didn't know Phil Knight's name or recognize his many achievements prior to reading the publisher's profile of this book before ordering it for my personal e-reader, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the outstanding job of publishing and interesting story behind this modern "Horatio Alger" success story; in addition to being a fascinating "behind-the-scene" accounting of "Nike's" remarkable climb to excellence. Knight is clearly an interesting, funny, brilliant individual ... the proof of which becomes abundantly clear throughout this excellent book.
