Superb coverage -- valuable tool

There are very few good books that deal with the design and development of portable consumer electronic products. I was absolutely crushed when they told me the NBA was not interested in drafting 5'6" Jewish guys so I carried on into my natural habitat, business! For 20 years I owned and operated Blind Devotion Window Coverings. About 15 years into it I was living thru one of the worst economies America has seen in my lifetime. But I also knew that the bad economy was masking mistakes I've been making for years in business. I knew that had I done things the right way I would still be running a strong business. It was then I looked for coaches, mentors, and Master Mind groups to help teach me about how to improve my marketing, sales, and business knowledge. The journey was a blast. I managed to take my business from $500,000 a year to over $1 Million in sales in just 2 years. I then reached my goal to sell my business in 2013. Now I'm enjoying consulting with other small businesses to help them reach their goals. Most I find have never even set goals. I'm working with them to help them understand what the path to success is and how to recognize and celebrate their achievements. The book is short and it is an easy read. While it does provide some solid ideas ...

"My New Book", by Jerry Levinson is a "How To" book designed to provide a handful of strategies to increase the small business owner's income. The book is short and it's an easy read. While it does provide some solid ideas for increasing revenue, the practical application is not for the squeamish. Stepping out and raising prices when "everyone" else is lowering theirs just screams "risky business", though backing it up with great service makes absolute sense. Chapter 4, "Find Your Best Customer" is by far the best in the book. The critical review on advertisements really drills down on the good, the bad, and the ugly advertisements consumers are faced with every day.

All in all, the book is geared more for the business person that is already established and perhaps is ready to take a critical look at what parts of the business could and should be done by other employees. Mr. Levinson makes some keen observations on stripping some of the day-to-day time consuming tasks off of the business owner and delegating them to a capable employee. On that note, Mr. Levinson would have been well served to take his own advice. Grammar and spelling do count, and when writing a book for publication, every effort should be expended to get a good editor as the errors noted detracted from the over-all message. On the positive side, many of the tips this author provides are good take-away gems that employees in leadership roles, or desiring to be in leadership roles, in any business can use.

Laminated Help for Chemistry Lab!

I've purchased several of the Bar Charts items to help out with Chemistry before I bought this, and honestly I hadn't used many of the information contained in those besides the atomic weights on the Periodic Table. The laminated sheets are rather eye-catching, but wasn't until last week that someone noticed my "Advanced Periodic Table" in my notebook. With that envy in mind, I sought this helpful guide to add to my growing Bar Charts library.

The information in this particular "Chem Lab Basics" won't get you an A, but it should jog your memory in advance of an exam, or remind you of various hazards you didn't hear your professor mention. Plus it has 3-hole punching and is laminated!

A Classic Reference for Nuclear Thoery

Blatt and Weisskopf is a good, thick compendium of nuclear theory developed from a quantum mechanical point of view. It's become something of a classic it its time, and I think this is well deserved, since it is written with a good flow and clarity and also covers everything a nonspecialist in nuclear physics would ever need to know (and provides a good basis for those who are specialists). The Dover edition is nice and also inexpensive. I would highly recommend it as a reference for all physics and chemistry people.

A classic on nuclear physics

This, as well as Lectures on Nuclear Theory (Dover Books on Physics) by Landau and Smorodinsky, are two books that you must have in your personal library. Both books were written the same decade (this was originally published in 1952). Springer published an update in 1979 and Dover started publishing the Springer edition in 1991.

Compared to Landau's book this is a bulky one: more than 800 pages. So, if you are an admirer of Landau, start with his book first. You will love how much he covers in about 100 pages.

The present book provides much more supporting information for those who find Landau's style too `brief'. Yet, although the book does contain material from quantum mechanics to be more complete (e.g. two appendices), it cannot be read unless someone is already familiar with quantum mechanics. As with Landau's book, and not surprisingly, quantum mechanical scattering theory is a prerequisite to understand it.

timeless and germane

Another classic reprint by Dover. The physics in this is still fresh and germane to a newcomer to nuclear physics. A previous background in elementary quantum mechanics is needed. This text then applies that knowledge to the special conditions in a nucleus.

The measurement of fission products and alpha, beta and gamma emissions is explained. Vital for experimentalists, so that you can deduce what the nuclear reaction was.

The fact that this is not primarily an experimentalist book helds keep it useful. The latter type would need to be updated with the latest instrumentation capabilities and results. Whereas the ideas and derivations here still hold. An added bonus is that Dover's strength is the low price of its offerings. Affordable to the physics student on a budget.

About the Author
Stuart Greene received his Ph.D. in English from Carnegie Mellon in English.�He is associate professor of English with a joint appointment in Africana Studies at Notre Dame. His research has focused on the intersections of race, poverty, and achievement in public schools. This work has led to the publication of his co-edited volume, Making Race Visible: Literacy Research for Racial Understanding (Teachers College Press, 2003), for which he won the National Council of Teachers of English Richard A. Meade Award in 2005. He also edited Literacy as a Civil Right (Peter Lang, 2008) and co-edited Bedtime Stories and Book Reports: Connecting Parent Involvement and Family�(Teachers College Press, 2010) with Cathy Compton-Lilly. His current book is Race, Community, and Urban Schools: Partnering with African American Families (Teachers College Press, 2013). �April Lidinsky (PhD, Literatures in English, Rutgers) is Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at Indiana University South Bend. She has published and delivered numerous conference papers on writing pedagogy, women's autobiography, creative nonfiction, and film, and has contributed to several textbooks on writing. She has served as acting director of the University Writing Program at Notre Dame and has won several awards for her teaching and research.
